There’s a new Probability Matters podcast episode out now!! I’ve been in the profession of worker health & safety for 10+ years and believe me Kyle Krueger and Mwangi Ndonga are some of the most brilliant minds in the H&S field.

It was truly and honor to have a conversation with them and intersect my work life with my music life, both of which I am extremely passionate about.

Improving worker conditions is essential now, more than ever, as we all know from this pandemic situation. In this episode we talk about thinking outside of the box and getting creative in both our personal lives and our professional lives. Let us know what you think. Episode in the link below 🎧👇🏽

Curated 'Buchanan' Mixtape and Worldwide Streaming

IMG_5545.jpg

Happy New Year friends and family! Thanks so much for all of your support over the past few months! It’s been a huge transition with music over the past year. Your continued support through purchases of music and merchandise and your continuous words of encouragement have really kept me motivated in the creative process. Even though touring last year was cancelled by the pandemic, I’m staying positive and collaborating with super talented and motivated musicians who are trying to navigate through these rough times. Let’s call 2020 what it was, a portage. It was hopefully a portage to more navigable waters. As my friend Captain Ron always says, “We’ve been ashore too long!” I couldn’t agree more.

If there’s anything that 2020 showed me, it’s proof that no matter WHAT happens in this world, without a doubt, creators, musicians, artists, photographers, writers, journalists, filmmakers will always find a way to explore, produce and contribute to the global body of art to make the world a brighter place.

As for my small sliver in that process, I’m pleased to announce TODAY that my latest project titled, ‘Buchanan’ is now streaming on all music platforms around the WORLD! Please get out there and have a listen, share with a friend, or add some of the songs to your own curated playlists.

Speaking of playlists, I’ve put together a mixtape/playlist specifically curated to include all of the songs from ‘Buchanan’ and other songs that I find myself spinning while driving around West Tennessee when I’m home visiting family and friends. CLICK HERE

With such rich musical heritage in the region, it’s a pretty magical place to be. This year has been very reflective and so much of that leads me right back to Buchanan, TN. Maybe this playlist will give you some essence of how it feels to be there.

With the purchase of ANY merchandise on the website, I’ll send over a free download code for the new release, ‘Buchanan’ or any other recordings in my catalog that you’d like to own!! CLICK HERE

Here’s to 2021. It’s a year for change. It’s a year to move beyond the old ways and never return. We’ll never be the same. There’s liberty in that. Sending best wishes for good health and happiness to all of you.

Loads of socially distanced hugs and love,

Bevin

Tascam 388 used to record 'Buchanan'

This is the Tascam 388 that we used to record my upcoming release, “Buchanan.”

⁣This is Tascam’s 8 track (8x8), 1/4" reel-to-reel multitrack tape recorder and mixer combination. It was the first of its kind and it was first released in 1985. The unit uses a 7" reel of 1/4" tape. These analog recordings have a warm, round, and thick sound transporting you to a different era. The texture and the tone have a rich quality that is truly unique to the Tascam 388.

⁣Recording with this unit forces you to stay on task and it doesn’t allow you to go down the rabbit hole of layering and effects. It produces stripped down tracks that aren’t quite Lo-Fi, but more in the Mid-Fi range. Some of my favorite bands that record with the 388 include Oh Sees, Ty Segall, and Kelley Stoltz.

⁣I’m so grateful to Shane Zweygardt for his expertise with this unit!! I’ve always wanted to record analog with something other than my Tascam 4-track Ministudio cassette recorder.

⁣I cannot wait to release these tunes into the wild!! Thanks for staying tuned. More updates in the days to come ♥️

This is my album titled, “Buchanan.” Release date 01/16/21. Album cover photo by Kelley K. Robinson ♥️

All of the songs are in some form inspired by Buchanan, TN. It’s a place with rich musical heritage. It’s only two hours up the road from Nashville. Damn near everybody on my mama’s side of the family who lives near or around there was or is a musician. My grandma, my grandpa, my mama, my uncle Jerry, my cousin James, and my brother. At family gatherings, if folks weren’t playing something, you know they was sangin’ along!!

My aunt and uncle lived at Bickerstaff Bottom in Buchanan. Johnnie Ruth was the oldest of my mama’s siblings. They were once five red headed daughters and the inspiration for my 2015 album title, “Attack of the Killer Redheads.” I liked to call her “Ain’t Johnnie Ruthless” because she was not someone you’d ever want to have cross words with. My uncle Jerry was a retired military man. He did tours in the Vietnam War both in the Army AND the Navy. We’d all go down to their place and it never failed, as soon as I’d roll up, Johnnie or Jerry would ask, “Hey young’un, did you brang yer guitar?”

My brother Gabe and I would play acoustic guitars by the gigantic bonfire that I’m pretty sure could be seen by the astronauts in the orbiting space stations. The complete lack of light pollution out there made for supreme stargazing.

My cousin James always made us his famous venison stew that slow cooked all day long over an open fire in a big ‘ole cast iron pot just like the old days. He’d also take us on hayrides through the woods of Bickerstaff Bottom in the trailer behind his refurbished 70s Allis Chalmers tractor. The whole family would be there. Even our grandparents back before they passed.

This album is a tribute to those days. It’s dedicated to my grandma and grandpa, Margaret Malone Anderson and Johnnie Freeman Davis and my Ain’t Johnnie Ruthless and my uncle Jerry Bickerstaff. They all stayed together until death did they part. The good and the bad, the sweet and the sour, the fun times and the conflicts, they stuck it out. They’re all laid to rest at the Beaver Dam Cemetery in Buchanan just four miles down the road from Buchanan School.
